NOMAD MONTHLY ROUND-UP - MAY 2023 EDITION

Hello everyone!

We’ve got a slightly earlier than usual monthly studio round-up for you all, but there’s a very good reason for that! There’s a ton of exciting stuff happening that ends on June 1st (when we’d normally share this), and we don’t want you to miss out on it. Between the annual Skulls festival and us giving you the chance to grab Talisman: Digital Edition for free, we’ve got a lot to cover. So let’s once again get stuck into it!

To celebrate the Warhammer Skulls event (which you can find more about below!), we had a big long think about what we could do as a studio. Every year, we put our Games Workshop titles on sale, but this year we decided to we wanted to do something bigger than just a sale. So we’re offering everyone the chance to download and keep Talisman: Digital Edition on mobile for free!

If you haven’t already, you can find out more about grabbing Talisman for free here on our website. Or download it below straight from your device of choice!

As of writing, we’ve already had nearly 50,000 of you pick it up on either Android or iOS, so we hope you’re enjoying turning your friends into toads!

As mentioned above, the end of May saw the return of the Warhammer Skulls event, featuring announcements, reveals and discounts across the whole world of Warhammer video games! You can find everything Skull related here on the official Warhammer website.

On our side of the Skulls festival, we’ve hosted some exciting developer streams and offered discounts on all of our Games Workshop titles - we’ve listed some of the best discounts below!

Recently, we hired three new developers onto the Nomad Games team, and since then they’ve been hard at work on exciting stuff in Unreal for us. As they hadn’t got a ton of experience in the engine, we tasked them with learning the ropes and putting together a working demo together for practice. Not only did they achieve that, but they managed to fully distract most of the Nomad team on the morning they shared the demo they’d put together!

Following successfully working together on that very distractingly entertaining demo, they have been working together to create a tech demo for one of our secret projects (that we still can’t talk about!). So far their progress has been great, and the entire team here at Nomad are impressed with what they’ve been able to do - and we can’t wait to show you what they can do!

We’re also still discussing other secret projects with publishers and other studios, so watch this space.

To celebrate the Skulls event, our very own Tom Young jumped onto our official Twitch channel to help new Talisman: Digital Edition players get to grips with the game. He also answered questions about the future of Talisman and talked a lot about tea!

Any possibility of game-balancing on the horizon..? More often than not characters don't make that much progress when all expansions ( except Clockwork Kingdom ) & legendary decks are enabled... Even with Runestones Dragon Realm's a nightmare as well, it's just so challenging...

A good question, but also a very tough one! The act of ‘balancing’ a game like Talisman is a very large undertaking. If we make too many changes, people will complain that we’ve deviated too far from the original physical game. If we don’t make enough changes, then any attempts to ‘balance’ the game won’t be enough. We could have it as an option to toggle between though, but that’d still take a lot of work. We’ll see if more people request this as a feature in future!

When might we get Fury of Dracula on Nintendo Switch?

Another great question! In order to Fury of Dracula: Digital Edition to arrive on Switch, two main requirements need to be met:

  • We need to have enough free development resources to put towards a port (without putting any of our other projects at risk).

  • We need to be confident enough that the game will make enough profit on the platform to justify a port.

At the moment, these requirements don’t show any signs of happening in the immediate future (sorry to break the bad news!), but thanks to the hard work of the community with things like the League of Dracula over on our Discord, we’re a lot more confident in the pull that Fury would have on Switch. We’re still not quite there though (and we’d still need to make sure we can spare the time/resources to do it), but it’s not impossible!

Is there a new Ver. of Talisman being worked on for Release? (The board game ver.)

There’s only one group of people who can answer that question, and that’s our friends over at Games Workshop! We only deal with the digital version of Talisman, and while we have a close relationship with them, there’s nothing we can share about what’s happening with the physical version. The best bet is to reach out to them for an answer!

New expansions soon?

That depends! We know there’s an appetite for new expansions, but we need to find the time to actually make them. That said, the more people ask us this question, the more we’ll be aware of just how much people want new expansions for Talisman: Digital Edition. So keep shouting at us if you want us to make it!

And that’s the end of this months update! Don’t forget, if you’ve got questions you want to ask the Nomad team, you can always send your questions to questions@nomadgames.co.uk, or fill in the form below! We answer each and every question that comes in, so don’t worry if you want to ask us something weird. In fact, we’d encourage it!
