Mobile ProblemsGenerally, rebooting mobile devices fixes a lot of problems so please try that first.
I've purchased an expansion pack, but it's not showing as available when creating a game.Firstly, make sure you've tried to switch the expansion ON by clicking it on the 'Rules & Expansions' page when creating a game.
Reboot your device and check again. If the expansion still cannot be switched on, try signing out of your iTunes/Google account and sign back in.
If you've recently installed the game or the game has updated, press the 'Restore Purchases' (iOS only) button on the 'My Collection' screen to get your expansion purchases back.
If you are signed into an iCloud account on your device (iOS only), please try signing out of that and then back in again.
Attempting to re-purchase each expansion manually, with the 'Purchase' button can often work too. A prompt may appear stating that you already own the item, but you will not be charged again.
You should also try deleting your Talisman data from Settings -> iCloud -> Storage -> Manage Storage -> Talisman and then running the game again.
If this still doesn't solve the problem, you will need to contact Apple and request a refund. You should have a confirmation email from Apple from when you purchased the expansion. Find that email and click the 'Report a Problem' link in the mail to get in touch with Apple.
I've purchased DLC on Steam, will I have access to that content on my iOS/Android device?No. The purchasing systems for all platforms are different and there's no way for us to know who has purchased what on each platform, so they are all separate.
PC CrashesIf the PC/Steam version crashes when you run the game, please right-click on the game on your Steam library and choose Properties and then select the Local Files tab. Choose 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache...' and let Steam check your local files. Run the game again and see if it still crashes.
If it still crashes, type this into the Windows Start Menu input box:
Then find and delete the Talisman folder. Run the game again and see if it still crashes.
If it STILL crashes, follow these steps -
In your Steam Library, right-click Talisman and select 'Properties'
Click 'Local Files'->Browse Local Files. Keep this folder open.
Delete all files from the 'Talisman' folder you opened before.
If you're running in Windows XP, and the game crashes when launching, re-install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 & 2008 Redistributable Packages. You can find them HERE.
Windows 10A small number of users have reported problems with Windows 10, ranging from some artwork missing to the game not running at all. Our middle-ware engine provider is hard at work adding support for Windows 10 right now and we hope to have these issues fixed very soon.
MAC OSX CrashesIf your Mac OSX version crashes when launching the game, please disable automatic graphics switching and try to launch the game again. More information on this can be found here.
Shaman character pack and Season Pass purchaseAll revenue generated by sales of the Shaman character pack are being donated to the charity SpecialEffect, which helps physically disabled children play video games. In order to raise as much money as possible for this charity, we decided that the character would not be included in the Season Pass on Steam. If the character was included in the Season Pass, then there would be no way for us to calculate how many actual units of the character had been sold, and the charity would miss out. We appreciate that some people will expect the Shaman to be included in the Season Pass, but we hope you understand why we have made this decision and please be aware that you can purchase the Shaman for as little as $1 from this website, which is half the price of a character on Steam.
I cannot go through the Portal of Power into the Inner Region, why?You are probably on a Warlock's Quest. You cannot enter the Inner Region if you are on a quest, unless you are teleported there. If the Cerberus card is on the Plain of Peril, you cannot go through the Portal until it has been killed.
I cannot cast a spell, why?There are several reasons why you might not be able to cast spells, based on other cards you might have and where you are on the board. Here are some common reasons...
You or your target have the Amulet object.
You are on the Cursed Glade space.
You have already cast the number of spells you started your turn with.
You are trying to cast Mesmerism but you have the Hag and cannot have more followers.
Destroy Magic is in effect for this round.
I keep casting Immobility on myself! Why?Immobility can be cast on ANY player, including yourself, so you need to cast it at the start of the turn of the player you want to cast it on. The easiest way to do this is to double-click the spell after the start of the the turn of the player BEFORE your target player. This queues the spell so that it will cast at the start of the next player's turn automatically.
I cannot use certain Objects or Followers, why?The best way to use Objects, Followers and Spells, is to double click/tap them in the Play Area when they glow blue. The Play Area is at the bottom of the screen where the current board space description is. There are three tabs on the right of this box, an i symbol for the space/card description, three small cards for the usable cards tab and a feather pen for online chat. Click each tab to change what is shown in the box. The middle tab, the three small cards, is the Play Area where cards can be double-clicked/tapped to be used.
An AI player has the Poltergeist and keeps moving to spaces to be healed, how do I win the game?This is an unfortunate situation that can happen with the physical board game too. The AI is just choosing its best option. The only way to prevent this is by switching on the 'No More Lives' House Rule. This stops players from healing after a player has reached the Crown of Command. Using this House Rule does contradict rules for Alternative Endings, so you will not be able to use any of those if you turn this rule on.
I completed a Warlock Quest (or rolled a 10 at the Temple) and didn't receive a Talisman, why?With the standard rules, the game starts with only 4 Talismans in the Talisman deck. If there are none available then you will not receive one for completing a quest.
Why can't I choose to attack another character using Craft instead of Strength?Only certain characters have the ability to do that, such as the Wizard and the Sorceress. Characters without this ability must attack other characters using Strength.
Why can't the Gypsy claim spells cast by the Apprentice Mage?The Gypsy can only claim spells which are placed on the top of the discard pile, whereas the Apprentice Mage discards to the bottom of the discard pile. This is to prevent situations where those two characters can constantly swap spells between them which prevent other players from having a turn.
I've purchased an expansion pack, but I cannot see how to use it.When creating a game, press the glowing button at the bottom of the screen that says 'Expansions & Rules'. This takes you to another screen where you can switch expansions on (green) and off (red) and also set the House Rules. If you've purchased an expansion and pressing it on this screen sends you to the 'My Collection' screen then something has gone wrong with your purchase. Please use the form above to let us know.
Creating and joining a private online game.
Select Online from the main menu.
On server list page, select the private game button at the top.
You will be asked to enter a lobby name - for this example let's use the word Minstrel.
Once you enter the name of your lobby you will be taken to the lobby page.
Have your friend press the private game button.
Please note that your friend will need to set their server list to the same region that you created your private game in. So if you created your game while on the Europe server list then your friend will need to press the private game button while on the Europe list also.
When they are asked to enter a lobby name have them enter your lobby's name.
Please note that the lobby name must be spelt the same way you spelt it. So in this example they will need a capital M in the name Minstrel.
After they type in the name and press continue they will be placed into your lobby.
Do all players in an online game need to own an expansion in order to use it?No, the game checks which expansions are owned by all of the players in the game and makes them all available to be used.
Some of the House Rules are greyed-out and unavailable to choose, why is this?Some House Rules contradict other House Rules, and so if you have some rules switched on then you won't be able to switch on the rule that conflicts with it. For example, the 'Race to the Crown' and 'No More Lives' rules affect the end of the game so you cannot choose to have those rules on and also switch on Hidden/Revealed Endings. Press the '?' to the left of the 'House Rules' text to see more information.
How do I use specific alternate endings in a game?If you first select either the Hidden or Revealed Ending rules, you will then see a button which says 'Alternate Endings' on it. Click that and you will then be shown all of the alternate endings for the game. Click each ending to toggle it on (green) or off (red). When the game starts, it will randomly select from all of the endings you switched on.
I can see more than one of the same character in my game, isn't that against Talisman rules?To help with balancing, we allow players to choose which character they will play as. This also allows more than one player to be the same character. To stop this from happening, switch on the 'Random Characters' House Rule.
Sometimes games can take a very long time, how do I make them shorter?There are several ways to do this using House Rules and certain expansions. The Bloodbath House Rule makes it so that players will not return once killed, so the game gets shorter as players leave the game. The Frostmarch expansion adds Alternate Endings which often speed up the end of the game. The 'No More Lives' and 'Race to the Crown' House Rules also speed up the end-game for those without The Frostmarch expansion. You could also switch on the 'Sudden Death' house rule, which allows you to choose the number of rounds the game lasts for. All players are scored based on the cards and stats they have at the end of the game.
