NOMAD MONTHLY ROUND-UP - JANUARY 2022 EDITION

Hello everyone!

Where has the month gone? January came and went in an absolute blur, and we’re already so deep into February! This month is a big one for us, as on February 28th we’ll finally unleash CATAN® - Console Edition upon the world! So as you can imagine, we spent almost all of January focusing on getting ourselves ready for the biggest game launch in our history as a studio.

That’s not all we got up to in January though, so let’s go through all the cool things we did!

CATAN Release Announcement

In January, we were finally able to reveal the release date for CATAN - Console Edition!

The game will be launching on February 28th, with both a standard and deluxe edition. You can pre-order the game now, and we’ll think you’re really cool if you do so!

You can check out the full announcement here.

Catan Development Updates

In early January, we submitted the final build of CATAN - Console Edition to both platforms and had them approved by both Microsoft and Sony. That didn’t mean we could just sit back and wait for the release date though!

To give you a peek behind the curtain, nowadays when you want to release a game on a console platform, you need to submit a build to be approved - this normally involves testing and the platform holder giving you a thumbs up to release on their console. Because you need to give them enough time to test your game before you can release it, you need to schedule your release date a while out from your submission.

However, releasing a patch for a game is a much shorter process that doesn’t require as much approval - so if (for example) your ‘final build’ needs to be approved a month in advance, your patch might only need a few days for approval. And because you can start working on your patches as soon as your final build is approved, you can actually have that patch ready ahead of the original release date you submitted!

So through January, we’ve been working on a day 1 patch that includes some small fixes ready for when the game launches. It’s nothing major, but as we’ve got the time, we might as well spend it polishing up little things we’ve noticed.

Don’t forget, if you want all the biggest CATAN® - Console Edition updates and to find out when it’s going to launch, head over to the official website.

Pitches, Future Work and More

January was a busy month for us when it came to future work as a studio. There’s not much we can actually discuss when it comes to this publicly, but we wish we could!

Right now we’re pursuing a number of different ideas and talking to a whole host of our industry contacts to see what exciting things we can do as a studio in 2023 and beyond. We’ve got some very exciting potential projects that we’d love to take further, but we’re not too firm in one particular direction just yet. We’re hoping that by keeping ourselves open, we’re more likely to be able to take on a new project when the right one comes along.

Also, if it turns out that we get multiple projects at the same time this way, that’s a very good problem to have! We’re already looking to expand as a studio by bringing on more staff, so this would make justifying it even easier than before.

Talisman Patch

Between all our hard work on CATAN, we’ve managed to find some time to work on Talisman: Digital Edition too - don’t think we’ve forgotten you adventurers!

Right now, we haven’t been able to dedicate enough time for our testing team to take a look at the patch however, as they’re neck-deep in making sure CATAN is ready for launch day. Once we can spare some time however, we’re going to make sure the Talisman patch is ready to go on all platforms and roll it out.

We’re not 100% sure when that’ll be, so we appreciate your patience in the meantime!

2022 Retrospective

Last year was one of our biggest yet as a games studio, so we thought it was only right that we take the time to do a proper deep-dive into our highs and lows!
